Stays Knotted

I was in my mid 40's when I had my second lesson (think my first one was at at 5) on tying shoelaces!

It came about when I was living in Canada and had a pair of shoes with round laces that constantly came undone.  My Canadian friend Carol had the answer.  A fail safe, full proof, guaranteed knot that would stay done up.  I have used it ever since and Carol was right...it stays tied!

The Knot
Carol called it the "Rita run a-lot".  Rita was a keen runner and taught Carol the knot and the name stuck.

I will take you through the steps on how to tie it:

Step 1
Start the knot as you would a traditional knot with right over left, tucking the right hand lace under the left and gently tighten.

Step 2
Again go right over left and tuck the middle of the right hand lace under the left forming a new loop.

Step 3
Tuck the middle of the left hand lace over the right, forming another loop.

Step 4
Pull both loops in opposite directions until the knot is firm.  Make sure the loose ends do not get pulled out of the loop when tightening.

Welcome to the "Rita run a-lot"

It might fell a bit awkward (fingers and thumbs all over the place) for the first little while, but that is normal.  Practice makes perfect.
